Here I am in Augsburg

The capital of Bavarian Swabia has just under 300,000 inhabitants. On the tourist map it is marked either as Fugger City or Renaissance City. Because in the 16th century, the era of the Renaissance and the Reformation, the fabulously rich merchant family of the Fuggers had their headquarters in Augsburg, which still characterises the cityscape today. The fact that it was also an ancient Roman city can be experienced in the Roman Museum. With a little more lyricism, author Sylvia Beyerle writes about "her" Augsburg: "Against love at first sight, a second sight often helps." When it comes to Augsburg, this state­ment does not apply to me! Even after thirty years, the city is still touching me like on the first day. The boulevard-like Maximilian­straße with its Renaissance archi­tecture is a journey back in time to the 16th century. In the old town with its pubs I am a young student again and in the Puppet Chest I can be a child. My love for Augsburg came to a climax in 2019 when UNESCO designated the water-rich city a World Heritage Site.
