With expressive drawings, the Egyptian caricaturist Doaa El-Adl casts light on to the situation of many women around the world. From the perspective of a political cartoonist, she aptly illustrates how social norms, traditions and even laws shape the lives, self-determination and freedom of women in a dramatic way. The famous Egyptian cartoonist Doaa El-Adl, born 1979, is known for her critical cartoons on political, social and religious topics. She currently works for the independent Egyptian daily newspaper Al-Masry Al-Youm. She won several awards for her work and was listed by the BBC as one of the most inspiring and influential women of 2016. Doaa El-Adl lives and works in Cairo.
